I hope everyone is enjoying Homecoming Week! It's been fun watching the students so engaged in the activities this week. Our various athletic teams participated in a window decorating competition downtown; organized by our parent boosters. I had the opportunity to judge the windows on Monday afternoon. It's a great partnership between the district and our downtown businesses. If you get a chance, check it out.

Some happenings...
Facilities Utilization Process
I provided a status report to the Board on the Facilities Utilization Process at the September 26 board meeting. As a reminder, I am holding an optional staff meeting today, September 28, at 4:30 p.m. in the board room to discuss this process.
5D+
The 5D+ leadership team will participate in the fifth (of six) full day training sessions today. I would like to thank this team for their commitment and leadership with this process.
Legislative Update
The Legislature passed and the Governor signed the third grade reading bill. While the bill is not perfect, it has been significantly improved since it was first introduced last year. Specifically, it increases local control when determining retention. I am still waiting on a full analysis and we will provide these details when available. Lastly, the legislation takes effect for third graders beginning in the 2019-20 school year. Free Press article link.
